Celebrate the Seasons

Fall is a wonderful season, and our pets seem to love it as much as we do.  They seem to perk up as the evenings get cool and the breezy days gently warn of the cold to come.  Dogs seem to be even more excited about walks in the autumn crispness, and cats seem to love playing in the leaves, no doubt looking for the mice who are busy beneath.  But even as we're enjoying the brisk beauty of fall, we need to remember it means Halloween and then winter is right around the corner, and with it, an awareness of seasonal challenges for our pets.
Candy is a problem more for dogs than for cats, because cats are a little pickier about what they eat.  Not so most dogs, who'll wolf down candy wrappers and all if given the opportunity, giving many a serious case of what the veterinarian calls "garbage gut."  Keep all candy out of reach, but especially chocolate, which is toxic for pets.
With people running around and so much activity, cats and dogs get nervous and some will take off.  Ask us about "microchipping" your pet to make recovery of lost pets easier, or keep your pets in and keep them in a secure place for the night.

With our cooler summer and a warm September, we are seeing a "tonne" of fleas this fall.  If you are like us and just the thought of fleas makes you itch, then you can imagine what your pets are feeling.  We have safe and effective flea treatments available to help your pet enjoy the fall season and remain flea free.

For more information please book an appointment with our veterinarian.
